Walks

We always walk on Thursdays and sometimes on Sundays. All walks start at 10am.

There are usually two walks to choose from on Thursdays – one at up to 5.5 miles and one at 6 or 7 miles.

We aim to offer a Sunday walk at least once a month. Our members are welcome to join Sunday walks offered by the
Mid Herts Footpaths Society (details of these are sent to members by email). Our Sunday walks are, likewise, offered to Mid Herts members.

Our walks often end with a pub lunch, which is optional.

OUR NEXT WALKS ARE:

THURSDAY 5 OCTOBER AT 10AM:

Short walk: 4.7 miles from Plough & Harrow public house, Southdown Road, AL5 1PR Harpenden. Everyone - eating or not - can park at the pub. Expl. 182 GR TL 142 133. Walk leader is Ray.

Long walk: 6.3 miles from Tewin, Upper Green Road, AL6 0LX. Park at the Plume of Feathers if staying for lunch (please pre-order) otherwise park at the Cricket Pavilion car park opposite. Expl. 182. GR TL 271 153. Walk leader is Beryl.

You are very welcome to join up to three walks before deciding if you'd like to join the Society. Send an email to stalbansfootpaths@gmail.com by the day before so we know you're coming.

We have very few rules for our walks:

  • Members must be over 18

  • Walkers must follow the Country Code, including keeping to marked footpaths and being considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside; leaving gates and property as we find them

  • We only allow registered assistance dogs on our walks

  • We ask members to arrive ten minutes before 10am as walks begin promptly
