The Society's AGM was held on 9 June.

Chair of the Society Alison Hannah led the meeting and was delighted to welcome the recently elected Mayor of St Albans, Councillor Teresa Heritage.

The Mayor – who is the Society’s Patron - was presented with copies of the Society’s two walking books.

The Mayor praised the work of the Society and presented its award of Honorary Life Membership to Phil Escritt. Phil, who intends to stand down next year from much of the work he does for the Society, was honoured for his outstanding work over many years. His citation read: ‘through diligence and excellent communication, he has protected existing footpaths and fought for new ones’.

Phil thanked the meeting, saying he was only able to do what he did because of the support he is given by others in the Society. He said that not only would the Strategic Rail lnterchange development continue for many years, but there were also significant developments in the offing to the north of the City, near Hemel Hempstead and at Oaklands which would require much work to ensure that rights of way were protected. Phil hopes that by standing down next year he will then be able to hand on his knowledge and act as a mentor to those who will follow him.
